I earned this certificate in CPT coding for Emergency Department and Critical Care through AHIMA! I learned to interpret physician documentation to determine critical care E/M codes in the ED, cultivate collaborative working relationships with others, determine accurate CPT codes to report various repair procedures, and identify services that are included in, excluded from, and can be reported alongside CPT repair procedures. I appreciated the doctor's sense of humor which seems to be along the same lines of macabre you tend to find in military families and the pilot/skydiver communities I've participated in during my lifetime. You have to have that sense of humor to survive the kind of injuries and death on display, and learn to celebrate those "wins" where somebody manages to survive, in spite of it all! It definitely takes a certain kind of personality and resilience to work in the emergency department and certainly in critical care. I have gained a whole new level of respect for the personnel working on the "front lines."
