Expectation
by Candice Ann Moraga
If you
were bleeding and faint
I’d give
my last drop of blood for your life
For,
though I may not be a saint…
I love
you more than a wife
I expect
nothing in return
If you
were gasping for air
I would
not hesitate
I’d give
you my very last breath
With
which to resuscitate
I expect nothing
in return
If you
were swimming in past regret
And
drowning in salty sorrow
I’d plunge
into turbulent depths
My ocean
of love, you could borrow
I expect
nothing in return
When you
shiver in tundra of judgment
Frozen
and frostbitten passion
I would
bare my soul just to thaw
The
cockles of heart with compassion
I expect
nothing in return
If your
feet were lead and earth-bound
Your
spirit – shot - with shame
I’d enfold you within my wings
Together –
we’d soar – no blame
I expect
nothing in return
If your
reputation was tarnished
And you
shied away from the light
I’d offer
the glow of my halo
Illuminate
you in the night
I expect
nothing in return
Like the
purity of a mother’s love
I’d
relinquish it ALL – for YOU
I’m not
asking for praise or thanks
I’m not
asking for credits due
I expect
nothing in return
TRUE LOVE’s
easy to discern
